Yardbook answering service: pick up the lawn calls you miss on the mower

Justin McKelvey
Justin McKelvey Founder of Local Call AI. Built it after watching friends in the trades lose thousands of dollars to missed calls.

In short

Yardbook is free landscaping and lawn care software, and it doesn't answer your phone. Local Call AI picks up every call while you're on the mower, in English or Spanish, takes the address, the services and how often they want them, and books the estimate. It's $297 a month with 250 minutes. On Connected ($497) it integrates with your existing Yardbook account; most Yardbook users start on Standard.

Free software, a phone that still rings on the mower

Yardbook is landscaping and lawn care business software that you can sign up for free. Its homepage says more than 20,000 companies use it, and it covers the whole small-crew loop: lead management, estimates, text and email messages to customers, job scheduling and routing, invoices and payments, even chemical tracking. Yardbook Profiles help homeowners find you and send their requests in.

What Yardbook doesn't list is anyone, or anything, to answer the phone. That gap is wider for a lawn company than for most trades, because the person who would answer is usually the person on the mower. Spring signups, a neighbor who saw your truck, a customer who wants to skip a week: they all call between 8am and 5pm, which is exactly when you can't hear the phone.

What a lawn care call needs, so the estimate is quick

Local Call AI answers in your business name and gets the details that let you price a yard without driving there twice:

  • The property address, and whether it's a front yard, back yard or both
  • Which services: weekly mowing, edging, leaf cleanup, aeration, mulch, a one-time cleanup
  • How often: weekly, every other week, or one visit
  • Access notes: gate codes, dogs, where to park the trailer
  • Whether they're switching from another company, and when their current service ends

It books the estimate visit on your Google Calendar or Cal.com calendar, or takes a detailed callback request. Every call's transcript, summary and recording sits in your portal with an email alert, so you can return the ones that matter from the truck.

Which plan a Yardbook user actually needs

Be honest with yourself about the money. Yardbook costs you nothing, and Local Call AI Standard is $297 a month with 250 minutes, about 100 calls at typical length, and $0.35 a minute after that. That's worth it when spring is costing you accounts because nobody answers. It isn't worth it if you get a handful of calls a week and return them all the same evening.

Standard is where most Yardbook users should start: calls answered, estimates booked, and details emailed to you to enter in Yardbook.

Connected ($497 a month, 500 minutes) is for a crew with an office person who wants each call to reach Yardbook without retyping. On that plan Local Call AI integrates with your existing Yardbook account, set up during onboarding. If you also want texts to the crew lead on urgent calls, that's Connected too.

Spanish-speaking customers

If some of your customers would rather talk in Spanish, the AI answers in English and switches to Spanish when the caller does, on every plan. See bilingual answering service. For the wider comparison of options for lawn businesses, see the lawn care answering service guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does Local Call AI work with Yardbook?
Yes. On the Connected plan it integrates with your existing Yardbook account, set up during onboarding. On Standard, every call's details arrive in your portal and by email for you to add to Yardbook.
Does Yardbook have its own phone answering or AI receptionist?
Not that Yardbook lists. Its homepage, checked in October 2026, lists text and email messages to customers but no call answering service or AI receptionist.
Is it worth $297 a month if Yardbook is free?
Only if missed calls are costing you work. Standard is $297 a month for 250 minutes, about 100 calls, with $0.35 a minute after. If you return every call the same day and lose nothing, keep the money.
Can it take the details I need to price a yard?
Yes. It asks for the address, which services and how often, gate codes and dogs, and whether they're leaving another company, then books the estimate or takes a callback request.
Can callers ask to skip or reschedule a mow?
It takes the request with the address and date and sends it to you right away. It doesn't change your Yardbook schedule itself.
Does it answer in Spanish?
Yes, on every plan. It switches to Spanish when the caller does.
