How Much Does a Missed Call Cost a Radon Mitigation Company? (The Sale Deadline Call Is 81% of It, 2026)

Justin McKelvey Founder of Local Call AI. Built it after watching friends in the trades lose thousands of dollars to missed calls.

In short

On Angi's 2026 average of $1,043 a system, a missed call from a home sale with a radon deadline costs a mitigation company about $668, against about $250 for a homeowner with no deadline. In a 150-call spring month with 46 missed, a two-crew company loses about $13,979, and 17 deadline calls carry 81% of it. When the caller is the agent, the next year's referrals ride on the same call: about $626 more per missed agent call.

In short: most radon systems get installed because a house is being sold. The test came back over the EPA's 4 pCi/L line, the contract has an inspection deadline, and the buyer's agent is calling down a list. On Angi's 2026 average of $1,043, a missed call like that costs a mitigation company about $668, because the agent rarely waits for a callback. A homeowner who tested on their own costs about $250, because they do wait. In a 150-call spring month with 46 missed, a two-crew company loses about $13,979, and the 17 deadline calls carry 81% of it.

The ticket: $1,043 a system

Angi's 2026 figures, from 1,184 verified projects:

  • A mitigation system averages $1,043, most between $805 and $1,326. Active suction soil depressurization, a fan pulling gas from under the slab, is the most common method.
  • Testing runs $150 to $700, and permits $25 to $150.
  • Angi also notes that many real estate transactions expect the system to be installed by a certified professional.

The EPA's line is simple: at 4 pCi/L or more, fix the home. It puts radon at about 21,000 lung cancer deaths a year. That's why a result over 4 turns into a repair request in the middle of a sale, with a date attached.

Why the deadline call is worth almost three times the homeowner call

Both callers want the same $1,043 system. What differs is what happens when you don't pick up.

A homeowner who tested on their own has weeks. They leave a voicemail, and we assume a same-day callback still wins 60% of them back. A buyer's agent has an inspection deadline and a seller waiting on a repair credit. They call the next certified installer on their list, so we assume a callback saves only 20%. Answered, we assume 80% of deadline calls book against 60% of homeowner calls, because the deal forces a decision.

Missed call Worth when answered Callback recovers Lost per missed call Missed Lost
Home sale with a radon deadline $834.40 20% $667.52 17 $11,347.84
Homeowner, own test result $625.80 60% $250.32 9 $2,252.88
Test request ($150) $105.00 40% $63.00 6 $378.00
Existing system, fan or retest 5 $0.00
Not a job 9 $0.00
Total 46 $13,978.72

The month: 150 calls, of which 55 come from home sales, 30 from homeowners, 20 are test requests, 15 are existing customers and 30 aren't jobs. Both crews are under houses and the owner is on one of them, so about 30% go to voicemail. That's $436.84 per missed call from a real customer.

The nearest trade to this is foundation repair, where a crack in an inspection report also arrives with a closing date. In our foundation repair missed-call math, the deadline call is one row among many. For a radon company it's most of the phone.

The agent who calls sends the next one

A homeowner calls you once. An agent sells houses every month, and in a radon area many of them test. Say 40% of your deadline calls come from the agent rather than the buyer or seller, and one agent in four who gets a fast, clean install from you sends three more jobs over the next year. Then each missed agent call carries:

25% x 3 jobs x $834.40 = $625.80 of next year's work, on top of the $667.52 job.

On the month above that's 6.8 agent calls and about $4,255 of referrals that went to whoever answered. Home inspectors who write up radon results feel the same clock from the other side; our home inspector answering service guide covers their phones.

What the phone should and shouldn't do on a radon call

The caller wants to know if the number is dangerous and what a system costs. On our plans the AI doesn't read a radon result, give health advice or quote a system. It asks for the test number and date, whether the house is under contract and the deadline, the foundation (basement, slab or crawl space), and the agent's name and phone. Then it books the soonest assessment, and a call with a deadline inside a week can go straight to the owner's phone.

What it costs to answer a radon company's phone

Local Call AI's Standard plan is $297 a month with 250 call minutes, Connected is $497 with 500, and Concierge starts at $750 with 1,000. Every plan bills $0.35 a minute past its allowance and answers in English and Spanish. Planning call lengths: deadline and homeowner calls 4 minutes, test requests 3, existing customers 2, not-a-job 1.5.

What you forward Minutes Standard ($297) Connected ($497) Concierge (from $750)
Every call (150) 475 $375.75 $497.00 from $750.00
Only the calls nobody picks up (46) 145.5 $297.00 $497.00 from $750.00

One saved deadline call covers Standard for the month twice over. We integrate with Jobber and JobNimbus only. Plan details are on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a missed call cost a radon mitigation company?

On Angi's 2026 average of $1,043 a system and our assumptions, about $668 for a missed call from a home sale with a radon deadline, $250 for a homeowner who tested on their own and $63 for a test request. In a 150-call spring month with 46 missed, a two-crew company loses about $13,979, or $437 per missed call from a real customer.

Why is a real estate radon call worth more than a homeowner call?

Because the deadline decides who gets the job. The agent calls the next installer on the list instead of waiting, so we assume a callback saves 20% of deadline calls against 60% of homeowner calls. Deadline calls also book more often once answered.

What is a real estate agent worth to a radon mitigation company?

In our example, one agent in four who gets a fast install sends three more jobs a year. That puts about $626 of next year's work on every missed call an agent places, on top of the job itself.

What does a radon mitigation system cost in 2026?

Angi's 2026 average is $1,043 from 1,184 verified projects, with most between $805 and $1,326. Testing runs $150 to $700 and permits $25 to $150.

What does an answering service cost a radon mitigation company?

On Local Call AI, our 150-call example month is 475 minutes: $375.75 on Standard ($297 with 250 minutes, then $0.35 a minute) or $497 on Connected. Forwarding only the 46 calls nobody picks up is about 146 minutes, inside Standard's 250, so $297.
