How Much Does a Missed Call Cost a Carpet Cleaning Company? (Ask About Pets, 2026)

Justin McKelvey
Justin McKelvey Founder of Local Call AI. Built it after watching friends in the trades lose thousands of dollars to missed calls.

In short

On Angi's 2026 carpet cleaning prices ($183 average), a missed call costs about $83 on a routine three-room job, $202 from a pet household, $349 on a whole house and $163 on a same-day job. In a 120-call month with 42 missed, a one-van company loses about $4,823, or $161 per real customer. About $946 of that exists only if somebody asks about pets, because stain and odor treatment take a $183 job to $443.

In short: a carpet cleaning call sounds like a $183 job, and on Angi's 2026 average it is, until somebody asks "any pets?" Add stain and odor treatment at Angi's prices and the same three rooms come to about $443. In a 120-call month with 42 missed, a one-van company loses about $4,823, or $161 per real customer. About $946 of that only exists if the phone asks the question. If your voicemail takes the call, nobody asks anything.

What one question does to the ticket

Angi's carpet cleaning guide, updated September 21, 2026, puts the national average at $183 from 49,415 verified projects, with most homeowners paying $123 to $242 per room. Then it lists what people add on. Here's a three-room job built up from the midpoints of those add-ons:

Stack Angi's 2026 range Midpoint Running ticket
The job the caller asked about average $183 $183
Pet stain removal $40 to $300 $170 $353
Odor treatment, 3 rooms $20 to $40 a room $90 $443
One upholstered sofa $50 to $400 an item $225 $668

The caller asked about a $183 job, and the same house can be 2.4 times that with two questions and 3.65 times with three. None of it needs a new customer, another drive or more ads. It needs someone to ask.

The month, with the add-ons priced in

One van, a busy month: 120 calls, of which 40 are routine rooms, 24 come from pet households, 12 want the whole house, 10 want same-day service, 14 are existing customers and 20 aren't jobs. The machine is loud and your hands are full, so 35% go unanswered. Whole-house jobs use the $775 midpoint of Angi's $200 to $1,350. Same-day adds the $75 midpoint of Angi's $50 to $100 fee.

Missed call Ticket Book if answered Callback recovers Lost per missed call Missed Lost
Routine rooms $183 65% 30% $83.27 14 $1,165.71
Pet household $443 65% 30% $201.57 8 $1,612.52
Whole house $775 60% 25% $348.75 4 $1,395.00
Same-day $258 70% 10% $162.54 4 $650.16
Existing customer 5 $0.00
Not a job 7 $0.00
Total 42 $4,823.39

That's $160.78 per missed real customer. Pet households are 8 of the 30 real calls and a third of the money. Same-day barely recovers on a callback, because somebody calling that day usually needs it that day. The call mix, booking and callback rates are our planning assumptions, not measured data.

Now run the same table with nobody asking. The 8 pet households get booked as plain $183 jobs, and that row drops from $1,612.52 to $666.12. The month falls to $3,876.99. So $946.40, about 20% of the loss, is money you'd only see from a phone that knows to ask.

The pet household calls back on its own schedule

Most homes need a cleaning about once a year, Angi says, but homes with pets, children or allergy sufferers need one every three to six months. Angi also puts a one-time visit at $220 and a quarterly visit at $180. So a pet household on a quarterly plan is $720 a year in visits, before a single add-on.

We left that out of the table because we don't know how many of your pet customers sign up. If yours do, a missed pet-household call costs more than the $202 shown. Wet rooms are a different job again. When a pipe lets go and a room is soaked, you're in the territory of our water damage restoration missed-call math, and the caller may need a restoration company first.

What the phone should ask on a carpet call

Five questions build the ticket: How many rooms? Any stairs? Any pets? Any furniture you'd want cleaned while we're there? How soon do you need it? Angi prices a staircase at $45 to $65, so even that one pays for the question. On our plans the AI doesn't quote a job price. It takes the address and those answers, flags stains and odors for you and books into the open slots you set, so you walk in knowing what the job is. Our carpet cleaning answering service guide compares the options for this trade.

What it costs to answer a carpet cleaner's phone

Our plans: Standard, $297 a month with 250 call minutes. Connected, $497 with 500. Concierge, from $750 with 1,000. Each extra minute is $0.35, and Spanish is included on all of them. We planned 3 minutes for a new job, 2 for an existing customer and 1.5 for a call that isn't a job.

What you forward Minutes Standard ($297) Connected ($497) Concierge (from $750)
Every call (120) 316 $320.10 $497.00 from $750.00
Only the calls nobody picks up (42) 110.5 $297.00 $497.00 from $750.00

At $161 per missed real customer, about two saved calls cover a Standard month. In a quiet month that may not hold, so forward only what you can't reach, or don't forward at all. We integrate with Jobber and JobNimbus only. The pricing page has the full list.

Pull your last 50 invoices and count how many have an add-on on them. If it's fewer than you'd guess, the phone isn't asking. Put your own average in our missed-call calculator, first with add-ons and then without, and the gap is what the question is worth. Other trades are in our 2026 missed-call cost research.
