How Much Does a Missed Call Cost a Garage Door Company? (The $250 Spring Call Is Really $342, 2026)
In short
On Angi's 2026 prices, a missed broken-spring call costs a garage door company about $247, a missed repair call about $121 and a missed new-door quote about $138. The spring call looks like a $250 job, but about 27% of its value is the replacement door the tech finds when the rest of the door is worn out. In a 240-call month with 71 missed, a two-truck company loses about $8,732, and spring calls carry 76% of it.
In short: a broken spring is a $250 job on Angi's 2026 average, and the homeowner whose car is stuck inside calls whoever answers first, so a callback rarely saves it. But the spring call carries a second sale. When the tech finds worn cables, rollers or panels too, Angi's own advice is that it's "probably time to fully replace the garage door", and that's a $1,231 job. Counting that, a missed spring call costs about $247, and about 27% of its value is the door you never got to see. In a 240-call month with 71 missed, a two-truck company loses about $8,732.

The tickets: $250, $265 and $1,231
Angi's 2026 figures:
- Spring replacement averages $250, often $150 to $350. Springs last 10,000 to 20,000 cycles: torsion springs about 8 to 15 years, extension springs about 7 to 12.
- Other garage door repairs average $265 across 42,709 projects, most between $155 and $379. Opener repairs run $100 to $500.
- A replacement door averages $1,231 across 15,434 projects, most between $754 and $1,707.
Angi also tells homeowners not to open a door with a broken spring by hand. That's why the spring call is urgent: the car is inside, the door is shut, and the caller has somewhere to be.
Why the spring call is worth more than $250
A spring that's reached the end of its cycles is often on a door with other worn parts. Angi's guidance is that when a pro finds problems with several components, replacing the door is likely cheaper than fixing it piece by piece. We assume 15% of spring calls find a door like that and you close half of them:
15% x 50% x $1,231 = $92.33 of replacement value riding on every spring call.
So an answered spring call is a $342 opportunity, not a $250 one. We assume 85% book, which makes it worth $290.98 when you pick up. A callback recovers only 15%, because by then a competitor is in the driveway.
A busy month: 71 missed calls
Say a two-truck company gets 240 calls in a month: 90 broken springs or doors that won't open, 30 other repairs (openers, off-track doors, dented panels), 25 new-door quotes, 50 existing customers and scheduling calls, and 45 that aren't jobs. Both techs are on ladders and the owner is one of them, so 30% of calls go to voicemail.
| Missed call | Worth when answered | Callback recovers | Lost per missed call | Missed | Lost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Broken spring or door won't open | $290.98 | 15% | $247.33 | 27 | $6,677.90 |
| Other repair | $185.50 | 35% | $120.58 | 9 | $1,085.18 |
| New-door quote | $276.98 | 50% | $138.49 | 7 | $969.41 |
| Existing customer or scheduling | 15 | $0.00 | |||
| Not a job | 13 | $0.00 | |||
| Total | 71 | $8,732.49 |
That's $203.08 per missed call from a real customer, and spring calls carry 76% of the month. Calling all 27 spring callers back wins back about $1,178 of the $7,856 they were worth.
The nearest trade to this is towing, where the stranded driver also hires whoever answers. Our towing missed-call math shows the same near-worthless callback, but a tow is the whole sale. A spring call is also the cheapest way to get a tech in front of a door that's due for replacement.
What if more of those doors are worn out?
The 15% is the assumption to check against your own jobs. If 30% of your spring calls end in a replacement quote, the door riding on each spring call doubles to $184.65, a missed spring call costs $314.03, and the month's loss rises from $8,732.49 to $10,533.52. Your field software can tell you: of last year's spring jobs, how many had a new door sold within 90 days?
What the phone should and shouldn't do on a garage door call
The caller wants to know if it's the spring and what it'll cost. On our plans the AI doesn't diagnose the door, quote a repair, or say whether the door needs replacing. It asks whether the door is stuck shut with a car inside, single or double door, roughly how old the door is, and the opener brand if they know it, so the tech can bring the right springs. Then it books the soonest slot, and a stuck-car call can go straight to the on-call tech's phone. Our garage door answering service comparison walks through how AI and live services handle the early-morning rush.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a missed call cost a garage door company?
On Angi's 2026 prices and our assumptions, about $247 for a missed broken-spring call, $121 for another repair and $138 for a new-door quote. In a 240-call month with 71 missed, a two-truck company loses about $8,732, or $203 per missed call from a real customer.
Why is a spring call worth more than the spring?
Because some springs fail on doors that are worn out everywhere else. Angi says that's when replacing the door usually beats repairing it. At 15% of spring calls finding a door like that and half of those closing at Angi's $1,231 average, each spring call carries about $92 of replacement value on top of the $250 repair.
Do callbacks work for broken garage door spring calls?
Rarely. The car is stuck inside and the homeowner calls the next company that answers. We assume a callback recovers 15% of spring calls, against 35% of other repairs and 50% of new-door quotes.
What is a garage door lead worth?
On Angi's 2026 averages, a spring repair is $250, another repair $265 and a new door $1,231. Counting the replacement a spring call can lead to, an answered spring call is worth about $291 after booking.
What does an answering service cost a garage door company?
On Local Call AI, our 240-call example month is about 688 minutes: $450.13 on Standard ($297 with 250 minutes, then $0.35 a minute) or $562.63 on Connected. Forwarding only the 71 calls nobody picks up is about 204 minutes, inside Standard's 250, so $297.
