How Much Does a Missed Call Cost a Lawn Care Company? (One Mow vs a Season, 2026)

Justin McKelvey
Justin McKelvey Founder of Local Call AI. Built it after watching friends in the trades lose thousands of dollars to missed calls.

In short

On Angi's 2026 lawn mowing figures, a missed call asking for one mow costs about $43, and a missed call that would've become a weekly route stop costs about $866 over a 30-week season. That's a 20x gap on calls that sound the same. Twelve missed new-customer calls in April can cost a lawn company about $7,102.

In short: a lawn care call is rarely about one lawn on one day. On Angi's 2026 numbers, a missed call for a single mow costs about $43. A missed call that would've become a weekly stop costs about $866 across a 30-week season. They sound the same on the voicemail, and that's the problem. Miss 12 new-customer calls in April and you can lose about $7,102 of the season before May.

One mow or a season: the same call, 20 times the money

Angi's lawn mowing guide, updated March 17, 2026, puts the national average at $123 a visit, with a range of $49 to $203, and weekly mowing at $65 to $100 a week. Take the middle of the weekly range, $82.50, and run it for a 30-week season. That customer is worth $2,475 a year.

Missed call Worth if booked Book if answered Callback recovers Lost per missed call
One-time mow $123 50% 30% $43.05
Weekly route stop, 30 weeks $2,475 50% 30% $866.25

The booking and callback rates and the 30-week season are our planning assumptions, so use your own. Same rates on both rows, on purpose. The only thing that changed is what the caller was buying, and the loss went up about 20 times.

Weekly price moves it less than you'd expect. At $65 a week the route call is $682.50, and at $100 it's $1,050. If that customer stays 3 seasons, the $866.25 becomes $2,598.75, and that's before fertilizer or cleanups.

What April costs

Our lawn care answering service comparison uses a 180-call April as its planning month. Most of those calls come from people already on your route, asking about a skip or a rain delay. Say 40 are new. Miss 30% of them while crews are out and that's 12 missed calls. If 8 wanted a weekly stop and 4 wanted one mow:

April, new customers Missed Each Lost
Weekly route stop 8 $866.25 $6,930.00
One-time mow 4 $43.05 $172.20
Total 12 $7,102.20

Almost all of that is in the top row, and almost all of it lands in a few weeks. Everyone calls when the grass starts growing. A lawn company that fills its route in April is mostly set until October, so a call in the rush can decide a whole season's stop. Snow companies count customers the same way, as our snow removal missed-call math shows.

The calls that don't look like money

A rain-delay call from an existing customer loses you nothing today. Nobody's buying anything. But a customer who can't get an answer about a skipped mow starts wondering about the next company on the door hanger, and losing that customer costs the same $2,475 a year. We left this out of the table because we don't know your cancel rate. You do.

When a missed call costs nothing

If your routes are full, a new weekly customer can't start, and the missed call costs $0. So the $7,102 is a number for a company with room. It's also a number about location. A stop on a street you already mow is worth more than one across town, since the drive time is already paid for, and a far-off stop can lose you money. Answering every call doesn't mean taking every lawn. It means finding out where the lawn is before you decide.

What the phone should ask on a lawn call

Five questions: What's the address? About how big is the lot? One mow, or every week? Anything else, like cleanup or fertilizer? When do you want to start? On our plans the AI doesn't quote a price you didn't write into its script. It takes those answers, books the visit into the slots you set, and gives your rain-delay answer to the customers calling about tomorrow.

What it costs to answer a lawn company's phone

Our plans: Standard, $297 a month with 250 call minutes. Connected, $497 with 500. Concierge, from $750 with 1,000. Each extra minute is $0.35, and Spanish is included on all of them. That 180-call April at 2.5 minutes a call is 450 minutes: $367 on Standard or $497 on Connected. One saved route customer covers that month more than twice. We integrate with Jobber and JobNimbus only. The pricing page has the full list.

Find your own number

Count how many customers you added last spring, and how many stayed through the fall. Multiply your weekly price by your season length, and you have the number that belongs in the top row. Put it in our missed-call calculator for the totals. Other trades are in our 2026 missed-call cost research.
